Tony Brunswick, Clinician (he/him)

LGPC, NCC, MS

I care deeply about your health and wellness. Let’s work together to create a safe, supportive, skilled, and non-judgmental space to help you understand what troubles you—big and small—and gain insight toward change that is positive and lasting. I offer individual, couples, and intensive therapy, both in-person and online.

Individual & Couples Therapy

I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating life-impacting experiences, including grief and loss, trauma, anxiety and depression, and loneliness and isolation. I support clients experiencing life transitions, such as career changes, new life phases, evolving relationships, relocation, and new and growing families. Through our work together, I bring a calm, empathic presence to support your path of healing and meaning in your life and relationships.

Couples come to me to find ways to step towards each other. We work on identifying obstacles—obvious and obscure—that hinder connection. We balance healing from past lingering hurts with steps to make changes in the present moment. I work with heterosexual and LGBTQ+ couples. Together, we work to

  • Strengthen your communication

  • Explore commitment

  • Heal from breaches of trust

  • Improve your parenting skills

  • Engage in premarital counseling

  • Increase sexual intimacy

  • Address trauma impacting the relationship

Each individual and couple is unique, and I draw on evidence-based practices, including psychodynamic, attachment, and cognitive behavioral therapies, to guide our work together. I also utilize mindfulness, somatic, and narrative practices to deepen self-awareness and self-expression. With couples, I draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Imago, and the Gottman Method to strengthen communication, understanding, trust, and intimacy. With all clients, I bring a trauma-informed lens to support our work together, drawing from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

Experience

I’m a National Board-Certified Counselor and a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the District of Columbia. I obtained my MS in Counseling in 2006 from Loyola University Maryland. I also hold a BA from the University of Dayton. I worked for more than 25 years in the non-profit sector, supporting individuals and communities, through which I gained advanced experience in executive leadership and management. I’m also a husband, dad, and proud DC resident.
